    Bernie Thiel

    Bernie Thiel is an accomplished researcher, marketing strategist, and communications practitioner for consulting and IT companies. Over 15 years, he held senior marketing positions at Computer Sciences Corporation and Ernst & Young LLP, where he was involved in marketing strategy, industry research, publications management, and public relations.

    As a marketing strategist, he created and helped implement comprehensive, high–profile marketing programs for national industry practices at CSC and E&Y. At both organizations, he launched and managed survey research initiatives on business/technology issues, particularly in the consumer goods, retailing, and logistics arenas. These studies included CSC’s Retail Technology Study, Consumer Goods Technology Study, and Critical Issues in Information Systems Management study, as well as the Retail I.T. and Internet Shopping studies for E&Y.

    In his PR roles, Bernie developed and managed effective, self–perpetuating media relations programs; ghostwrote more than 300 articles for consultants that appeared in major business and trade publications; and secured positive exposure for his clients in a wide variety of media outlets, including several national cable business news television programs, Financial Times, Sloan Management Review, Wall Street Journal, Investor’s Business Daily, and Industry Week.

    Bernie’s recent consulting projects include:

    Helping a major consulting, systems integration, and outsourcing firm develop research papers, survey reports, and a book on customer relationship management

    Working with a global consulting firm to execute a comprehensive research project on how businesses can improve the performance of their workforce

    Producing in–depth industry studies for a worldwide systems integrator on retail technology and the state of e–business among leading consumer goods manufacturers.

    Prior to founding Alterra Group, Bernie was co–founder of The Bloom Group, a pioneering firm in the thought leadership marketing field. While at The Bloom Group, he helped leading consulting and systems integration companies with a wide range of marketing initiatives including:

    • Assessing organizations' best thought leadership marketing opportunities
    • Ghostwriting myriad publications, including three major business books and several hundred white papers and bylined articles
    • Developing and executing dozens of executive surveys and writing the associated research reports
    • Creating numerous campaigns to take clients' intellectual capital to market

    Bernie graduated from Xavier University in Cincinnati with a B.S. in communications.
